There will be practice that Sat. at 10am. Some of us will be in St. Louis at the Japanese Festival for a demo. You are welcome to come to either. The festival is super cool but there will not be a practice at the demo.

I will finally be able to come back down to KC on Labor Day weekend after a long summer. I am hoping that there will be practice that day. Would someone kindly inform me if there will be?
Thanks, Caleb Des Moines, IA |

Welcome to the boards,
All you need to join at first is a willingness to learn and show up to practice. Classes are not in a specific order and you can come as much or as little as you would like. After your first few practices you will want to buy your own shinai (bamboo sword) and bokken (wooden practice sword) and at some point a Kendogi and Hakama (uniform). If you find you like Kendo and have progressed you may consider buying your own set of Bogu (Armor). Classes are completely free however. Look forward to seeing you at practice. |

I was looking around for some martial arts when it hit me, how about search for ken-do. I doubted there would be any close but to my surprise their was one in Kansas City. I'm very interested in joining, just the website isn't really clear on how you do that.
My question would be: What do need to do to join? What things do I need? Is the lessons in seasons, like theirs a practice 1, 2 , 3, 4, 5, 6, etc. If you miss practice 1,2,3 whatever do you have to wait till it repeats? |

Mike,
Welcome to the forums. We are still active and would look forward to you joining us for practice. Come as often or little as you can. We meet on Wednesday evenings from around 6:30 to 8:30 and Saturday mornings from 10:00 till around 12:00. Directions to our location can be found on our site, however if you need any specific directions let me know. For your first few practices all you will need is to wear comfortable weather appropriate clothing (we practice outdoors) and plenty of liquids to keep hydrated. Eventually you will want to get your own bokken and shinai. If you have any questions let us know and we look forward to meeting you. |

My name is Mike Gibson and I am station here at McConnell AFB here in Wichita. I am an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician and recently found out about Kendo in the Air Force Times. I am very interested to learn more about Kendo and was wondering if you are still active. I have family in Kansas City so I do make it there from time to time. My cell # is 805-717-0301 and my home # is 316-684-1370. I hope to hear from you guys and also, if anyone is from Wichita and looking to car pool, call me. Maybe we can work something out. My truck is pretty dependable. Thx
