The Kansas City Kendo Club will be doing a demonstration and workshop at the Japan Festival again this year. The event takes place on Saturday, September 19th at Johnson County Community College and goes from 10:00am to 8:30pm, with an admission price of: Adults $7, Students and Children $4, Children under 5 are free All activities at the Greater Kansas City Japan Festival are included with admission except several workshops that have a nominal charge. The martial arts demonstrations start at 2:00pm in the Polsky Theater in the Carlsen Center, and the kendo workshop is at 4:00pm outside in the Library Plaza.

I personally love this event. There are many vendors to browse, and many interesting workshops and demonstrations. I've done several of the workshops over the years, from making sushi to playing a shakuhachi, and even helped out my Japanese teacher, Rumbach sensei, with a language workshop. I've bought some interesting books there, and local Japanese restaurants come with good food to eat. And just walking around can be interesting, as a bunch of the younger crowd always come and do cosplay. I have never been disappointed by the Japan Festival, though I have walked away exhausted.

You mean the Ethnic Festival? I'm going to be posting some in a couple days. I haven't looked at them yet, but I'm sure there will be a few good ones to share.

I may have missed an email somewhere. Do we have a schedule of when and where we need to be during the festival?

Thanks.

The MA demos are in the Polsky Theater and they start at 2pm. We're scheduled to go up at 2:15pm. The workshop is scheduled to start at 4pm outside in front of the library in Fountain Square. I'd hazard a guess that we should be at each of these events by at least 1:45pm and 3:45pm, respectively.

Not knowing the area, or members of the club, would it be possible to meet some one/people maybe a little earlier?  I have put my contact information in the "visit from Des Moines" thread.  There was mention made of possibly participating with the workshop (demo?); should I bring my gear?  I am really looking forward to meeting you.

I know it's been a long while, but here are some photos from the 2009 Japan Festival.

Before you all start drawing your weapons and looking for blood please let me explain that I am *not* a photographer and that I was manually setting the shutter speed so that I did not need to use the flash and blind the demo participants.  Of course this resulted in the blurs and otherwise crumby quality photos, but a few did turn out okay.

My wife called me and so I had to step out and so I missed the last group doing their weapons demo.  And it was the only group I've never seen before and wanted to watch...  I'll have to catch them next year.

Thank you for posting those pictures.  I've been sharing them here in Des Moines, and there are several who wish that they had attended.  Maybe we will have better attendance this year.
