The Kansas City Kendo Club will be doing a demonstration and workshop at the Japan Festival again this year. The event takes place on Saturday, September 19th at Johnson County Community College and goes from 10:00am to 8:30pm, with an admission price of: Adults $7, Students and Children $4, Children under 5 are free All activities at the Greater Kansas City Japan Festival are included with admission except several workshops that have a nominal charge. The martial arts demonstrations start at 2:00pm in the Polsky Theater in the Carlsen Center, and the kendo workshop is at 4:00pm outside in the Library Plaza.
I personally love this event. There are many vendors to browse, and many interesting workshops and demonstrations. I've done several of the workshops over the years, from making sushi to playing a shakuhachi, and even helped out my Japanese teacher, Rumbach sensei, with a language workshop. I've bought some interesting books there, and local Japanese restaurants come with good food to eat. And just walking around can be interesting, as a bunch of the younger crowd always come and do cosplay. I have never been disappointed by the Japan Festival, though I have walked away exhausted.
